Infrastructure

NEG-LABISE has six rooms with the following equipment and methodologies:

(1) CO2 laser-based extraction line for silicates and oxides together with GasBench II and an elemental combustion system (COSTECH) for on-line carbon and nitrogen analysis with Delta V Advantage mass spectrometer (ThermoFinnigan);

(2) Clean room for chemical separation of elements (Rb-Sr ion exchange columns);

(3) Gas source mass spectrometry (SIRA II – VG) and an atomic absorption for Hg analysis;

(4) Conventional high vacuum extraction lines of C and O for carbonates and silicates;

(5) X-ray fluorescence (Rigaku – model ZSX Primus II) for analysis of major and minor elements;

(6) Rock sample preparation room located in the external area with jaw crusher and mill.

These laboratories are housed in a 400 m2 building built by the Federal University of Pernambuco.

In addition, the NEG-LABISE facilities have a library of scientific journals and books covering the topics of petrology, isotopic geochemistry, stratigraphy and tectonics.

The regulations for the use of NEG-LABISE established by the management and user committees can be accessed here
